I want to introduce you to my new best friend. Her name is Husqvarna Viking Emerald, Emmy for short. Pretty sweet name, I know. She is also super helpful in regards to keeping me fashionable on a budget.

The problem is, I don’t want to do anything other than hang out with Emmy now that she’s around. All my other projects have been set aside to make new clothes (which is why you haven’t seen any posts from me in a while…).
I am very lucky to have learned how to sew when I was a kid. My mom was a seamstress/quilt maker since she was young, and she enrolled me in sewing classes by the age of 8. My first project was a pillow. My second project was a scrunchie.

So far, Emmy and I have made Elvis pajama pants for Tom (so he wouldn’t mind me spending all my time sewing and taking over the whole apartment), a cover for my Kindle Fire and a striped peplum shirt – more on that later.
So, with Emmy, I think I’ve solved my problem of not buying new clothes! Sewing is so much fun, and everything I make is perfectly according to my desires and size. Plus, buying fabric is generally much cheaper than buying a nice garment. And if I really want to commit to my resolution of reducing consumption and waste by reusing what already exists, I can go vintage/consignment/thrift shopping and alter the things I buy there. (For the record, Emmy was also bought second hand.) It’s win/win/win.
Stay tuned for more posts on what I’m making!
